Translation Duel - Monolok

For the first time, and in a new extended format, LitFest's popular translation duel takes on Polish, as translators Antonia Lloyd-Jones and Anna Zaranko tackle an excerpt from writer, vocalist and songwriter Pawel Soltys' new book.Antonia Lloyd-Jones has translated works by Poland's leading contemporary novelists and reportage authors, as well as classics, biographies, essays, crime fiction, poetry and children's books.

Her translation of Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead by 2018 Nobel Prize laureate Olga Tokarczuk was shortlisted for the 2019 Man Booker International Prize.

A former mentor for the Emerging Translators' Mentorship Programme and co-chair of the UK Translators Association, she is compiler and co-translator of The Penguin Book of Polish Short Stories.Anna Zaranko has translated a variety of works from Polish, ranging from novels and short stories to poetry, historical essays, literary criticism and diaries.

Her translations of the 19th-century classic The Peasants by Wladyslaw Reymont and the 1960s novella The Memoir of an Anti-Hero by Kornel Filipowicz received the Found in Translation Award.Presided over by translator, editor and author Daniel Hahn, this event is a treat for all lovers of language and close reading.
