Woodford NT Outing to Ely Cathedral and Wicken Fen, Cambridgeshire

Thursday 25th June 2026This is a two centre Town and Country trip to Cambridgeshire. Our first stop will be Ely Cathedral, Isle of Ely - Ely Cathedral being a marvel of medieval engineering.
We shall be arriving in Ely, the seventh smallest city in the country, in time for coffee/tea etc., there should be a coffee shop open in the Cathedral and toilet facilities. At noon we shall be split into hopefully three groups for an hour-long guided tour of the Cathedral. There are Cathedral grounds to wander around or the High Street is not far away where you can find a lunch spot. You are welcome to bring your own packed lunch and find somewhere to sit in the grounds or down by the river.
At approximately 2.30 p.m. we shall depart for Wicken Fen, a National Trust Nature Reserve (about 15 minutes drive). There are board-walks and bird hides and all we need is a beautiful mid-summers day and more time! A small tea-shop and shop to browse around if you want to take it easy.
Wicken Fen is a National Trust property and so is free to members but do remember to bring your National Trust membership card.Leave: 9.30 a.m. Hawkey Hall or 9.45 a.m. Lidl, Loughton
