Stroll along the boardwalk in this National Nature Reserve with a wide variety of flowers and the chance to see an osprey. This is a relatively easy walk over some rough, and often muddy, ground, then along a board walk through the reed bed on the edge of the lough to the bird hide where we will stop for lunch. We will be looking at flowers and listening for birds along the way. Part of the area is now a National Nature Reserve and the different plant habitats include marsh, mire (or raised bog) and hay meadow. Some of the plants we should see are Lesser Spearwort, Blinks, Meadow Sweet, Sneezewort, Ragged Robin, Marsh Cinquefoil and Yellow Rattle. We expect to hear a number of birds including skylark, sedge warblers and reed bunting and from the adjacent woodland willow warblers with perhaps sightings of spotted flycatchers on the telegraph wires or even an osprey over the lough.Dress for changeable weather and wear suitable footwear. Bring a packed lunch, snacks and a drink for the break.
Dogs are not permitted at this event.
