Drawing audiences into the places and stories behind each song, contemporary re-workings of north-east Scottish ballads sit alongside innovative compositions inspired by folklore and landscape.
Using layered sound and image, this production guides audiences through shifting notions of time and place.Combining live vocals, a soundscape built from field recordings and archival material, with contributions from Scottish instrumentalists including Paul Anderson and Alice Allen, and visuals created by artist Isla Goldie incorporating archive maps and location footage, electronica, traditional song, and historical source combine to form a cohesive sonic environment beneath the live performance.Performed by Aberdeenshire-based singer and producer Fiona Soe Paing, this piece was sparked by her discovery of a family connection to ballad singer John Strachan.
