Barrowford library Fun Palace

As Barrowford Library turns 70 years old this year, we're turning the clock back to 1956 for a 1950s Tea Party-themed Fun Palace. With a focus very much on community and 'analogue' fun, this is what we'll be offering: Musical entertainment: The Ukes of Hazzy ukuleles (11am) and Barrowford Community Choir (12pm) will each be performing a selection of hits from the 1950s; Food and drink: the library's Friends volunteers will be providing 1950s-inspired cakes and sweet treats synonymous with the decade; Games: the library's Culture Hacks will be holding a vintage table-top games stall and - if the weather's fine - some hula hooping, hopscotch or skipping outdoors; Crafts: simple crafts synonymous with the era, plus a homemade crafts stall mostly created and kindly donated by the library's Knit and Natter group; Gardening: local gardening community group Barrowford in Bloom will be planting and providing spring bulbs to take home; Memories: there'll be a trip down memory lane with a memory box of 1950s memorabilia, plus a display of bygone Barrowford, created by the Friends volunteers in conjunction with the library staff; Plus copies of popular book titles (adult and fiction) first released during the 1950s, and a Barrowford-based quiz.Fun Palaces is an annual weekend of free events where arts, crafts, science, tech and digital are a catalyst for community engagement and full participation for everyone, from the grassroots up, to learn something new and have fun doing it.
