Ten years ago, on 17th September 2016, Herne Bay welcomed HRH Prince Michael of Kent to unveil a bronze statue of record-breaking pilot Amy Johnson, marking the 75th anniversary of her death - in service for the RAF during WWII - off the shores of the town in 1941.

The bronze stands as a permanent memorial to Amys legacy, honouring her connection to Herne Bay, women in aviation and engineering, and all those who served and made the ultimate sacrifice.

This illustrated talk by Heritage Practitioner Jane Delamaine, the woman behind the creation of the monument, is celebrating the 10th anniversary by sharing her story, including the highs and lows of fundraising for, and project managing such a commission, and opening a window into the process behind the creation of a bronze.

It explores the work of artist Stephen Melton, from initial concept and designs, through to the casting of this stunning monument.

And of course, remembering the royal unveiling event enjoyed by so many, when Herne Bay got to entertain a Prince for the day! Join us to wish Our Amy a very happy 10th birthday!
