Faye MacCalman is an improviser and composer-songwriter on saxophone, clarinet, voice and electronics based in Newcastle, described as 'one of the most envelope pushing jazz artists today' (Crack Magazine).Faye is bandleader of acclaimed jazz art rock adventurers Archipelago. Faye has been invited to support numerous leading lights of experimental and adventurous music, including Richard Dawson, Mary Lattimore, Warm Digits and Field Music, alongside working as a bandmate/collaborator with artists including Me Lost Me, Arun Ghosh, Richard Dawson, Chrysanths, Hector Gannet, and David Brewis (Field Music).Faye's debut solo album 'Invisible Real' recorded with Sam Grant (Pigsx7, Richard Dawson) at Blank Studios, is scheduled for release in Spring 2027 and intertwines anonymously collected stories of mental illness with Faye's own experiences of illness and loss, imagined through magical and surreal new worlds.
