The Mystery of Edwin Drood

Charles Dickens died before completing his final novel, leaving the fate of Edwin Drood, and the identity of his possible murderer, one of literature's most tantalising mysteries.Rupert Holmes's exuberant musical invites us into the Music Hall Royale, where a wonderfully eccentric Victorian theatre company presents its own flamboyant version of Dickens's unfinished tale. At its heart is John Jasper, the troubled choirmaster obsessed with his pupil, Rosa Bud. Rosa is engaged to Jasper's nephew, Edwin Drood, but when Edwin mysteriously disappears on a stormy Christmas Eve, suspicion falls upon an extraordinary collection of characters. Was Edwin murdered? If so, who committed the crime? With Dickens unable to provide the answer, the decision falls to the audience. Each performance invites its spectators to vote on the identity of the murderer-and help determine how the story ends-making every show a uniquely entertaining theatrical event.Filled with mystery, comedy, romance and a richly theatrical score, The Mystery of Edwin Drood is a joyous play-within-a-play and a celebration of the unruly pleasures of live theatre. This ingenious musical whodunit is brought to you by the University of Chichester's Musical Theatre (Triple Threat) students as they enter the second year of their training.Discount
