Brighton’s art scene is set for a provocative one-night takeover this autumn.
World-renowned #1 art forger David Henty will join crime novelist Rob Starr at Helm Gallery with their event 'The Forger’s Game'Henty will exhibit hand-painted recreations inspired by Picasso, Van Gogh, Vermeer and Caravaggio, before joining Starr for a live Q&A exploring the real world of forgery and the crime fiction it has inspired, followed by a signing of Starr’s new novel The Forger’s Game.
Henty’s reputation rests on just how convincing his work can be and in 2019, one of his “Picassos” was reportedly valued at £1 million at auction before Henty himself stepped in and revealed that the painting was actually his, after it had been falsely attributed by the seller.
Henty’s real-life experience now feeds directly into Starr’s fictional world, with The Forger’s Game drawing on the secretive international market surrounding valuable artworks and featuring Henty himself. The evening will give guests the chance to hear directly from both Henty and Starr about the worlds of art forgery and crime fiction.
