Few Irish artists have lived a life as richly layered as Frances Black.

Singer, songwriter, activist, counsellor and Senator, she is an artist whose voice carries both beauty and conviction.Described by the late Nanci Griffith as the sweetest voice of Ireland, Frances has been one of the countrys most loved performers since the late 1980s.

Born in Dublin into the celebrated Black Family, she began performing at 17 alongside her siblings Shay, Michael, Mary and Martin, before honing her craft with Arcady and later collaborating with Kieran Goss. Her breakthrough came in 1992 with A Womans Heart, the biggest-selling album in Irish history, featuring Frances unforgettable performances on Wall of Tears and After the Ball.

A hugely successful solo career followed, beginning with Talk to Me, which spent ten weeks at number one in Ireland.

Albums such as The Sky Road, The Smile on Your Face, Dont Get Me Wrong and This Love Will Carry cemented her reputation as one of Irelands most emotionally resonant singers.Frances music spans folk roots, pop melodies and powerful protest songs.

From audience favourites like When You Say Nothing at All and Fear Is the Enemy of Love, to deeply moving performances of songs such as The Hills of South Armagh and This Love Will Carry, her live shows are marked by warmth, honesty and exquisite song choices.Beyond music, Frances has long been a passionate advocate for social justice.

She founded the RISE Foundation, supporting families affected by addiction, and later returned to education to qualify as an addiction counsellor.

Elected to Seanad ireann in 2016 as the first female Independent Senator from the panel system, and re-elected in 2020, she continues to be a strong voice for the vulnerable.Awarded multiple honours including IRMA Best Irish Female Artist and National Entertainment Personality of the Year, Frances Black remains an artist of rare integrity.

On stage, her voice still glows with the same quiet power that first captured the hearts of audiences decades ago.www.frances-black.net [https://www.frances-black.net/]Check out all our upcoming Music Capital events at www.musiccapital.org [https://www.musiccapital.org/]
