A joint fundraising concert featuring Rugby Recorder Ensemble and Leicestershires Phoenix Saxophone Orchestra, playing together for the very first time.This concert provides a unique opportunity to experience the sight and sound of more than 30 musicians playing 14 different instruments, many of which you may never have seen before.The concert will feature separate ensemble pieces from Rugby Recorders and Phoenix, plus a joint piece - Viadanas Sinfonia La Bergamasca - and the world premiere performance of Steve Marshalls Concertino, a concerto for recorders and solo soprano saxophone, to be played by Samuel Beddard [https://samuelbeddard.co.uk/].Tickets are 10 each (5 for under 16s) and all profits from the concert will go to RugbysMyton Hospice [https://www.mytonhospice.org/].Rugby Recorder Ensemble plays eight different types of recorder - sopranino, descant, alto, tenor, bass, great bass, contrabass and sub bass.
Their music will include Dunholm Suite by nationally respected local composer, Rosemary Robinson.Phoenix Saxophone Orchestra features six different types of saxophone, from the tiny sopranino through the more commonly seen soprano, alto, tenor and baritone saxophones, to the giant bass sax.
The orchestra plays a varied repertoire that ably demonstrates the versatility of the saxophone.
From light classical music, jazz and big band favourites to modern pop tunes, theres something to appeal to all musical tastes.Rugby Recorder Ensemble was founded in 1989 by their conductor, Caroline Jones.
It has grown to be a highly respected recorder group, drawing its members from as far afield as Peterborough.Phoenix Saxophone Orchestra formed in 2020 and is based in the Leicestershire town of Market Harborough.
