Arsenic and Old Lace, by Joseph Kesselring, is a dark comedy about Mortimer Brewster, a theater critic who discovers his charming, elderly aunts, Abby and Martha, are poisoning lonely old men with elderberry wine laced with arsenic.
Set in Brooklyn, Mortimer struggles to handle his aunts' hobby, his brother Teddy (who thinks he is Theodore Roosevelt), and his menacing brother Jonathan, a real criminal.
There is a wonderful film version made in 1944 directed by Frank Capra and starring Cary Grant.
