The workshop will be led by Mark Burstow, Musical Director of the Bournemouth Symphony Youth Chorus. Mark will focus on vocal and choral technique, musicianship and interpretation of the Rutter Requiem and Chilcott's A Little Jazz Mass.
John Rutter's Requiem is a musical setting of parts of the Latin Requiem with added psalms "Out of the deep" (Psalm 130) and "The Lord is my Shepherd" (Psalm 23) and biblical verses in English. Rutter completed his Requiem in 1985 and bears the dedication "in memoriam L. F. R.", John Rutter's father, who had died the previous year.
Bob Chilcott sang in the Choir of King's College, Cambridge, both as a boy and as a university student. Chilcott has always loved jazz and worked as an arranger for the BBC Radio Orchestra. A Little Jazz Mass was written for the massed choirs of the 2004 Crescent City Choral Festival, and received its premiere in St Louis Cathedral, New Orleans in June of that year.
