Gardens of Aranjuez - a Concert

Our 2026-27 season opens with one of the best-loved works in all of music: Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez.Inspired by the gardens of a royal Spanish palace, it's a piece full of sunshine and longing - and its slow movement is one of the most beautiful melodies ever written.Around it sits a programme of contrasts: Doreen Carwithen's stormy seascape Bishop Rock, Lili Boulanger's radiant D'un Matin de Printemps, a and Cesar Franck's magnificent Symphony in D minor, which travels from darkness to a blazing, triumphant close.We're delighted to welcome guitarist Richard Haslam as our guitar soloist.

Derbyshire-born and trained at the Royal Northern College of Music under Craig Ogden, Richard has performed the concerto with orchestras across the region.You don't need to know the music to be swept up in it.
