Skipton & Knaresborough Turnpike Trust in the 21st Century

The talk is presented by Hilary Jones who is vice-chair of The Milestone Society, a charity that seeks to conserve our wayside heritage of milestones, boundary markers and traditional fingerposts.

She has a professional background in transport planning and highways but is now retired and lives in Wensleydale.Hilary will examine the Skipton and Knaresborough Turnpike Trust exploring the route taken over time to its present day version as the A59.

She will highlight the roadside milestones that still rest quietly in place on verges or footways.

The talk will be fully illustrated and there will be plenty of opportunity for questions!
