About

Carole Waller is a painter who loves colour – and is known for her work in textiles.

Carole Waller is a painter who loves colour – and is known for her work in textiles.

She has been making complex, vibrant painted clothes and scarves her whole career – alongside large scale wall pieces and paintings laminated in glass.

Her work can be found in the V&A in London and in various other public and private collections and publications.Carole moved to Worthing early in 2026, from Bath where she lived and worked for 30 years.

She looks forward to exhibiting a collection of images which explore light and colour in movement and stillness.

The media range from acrylics on paper to dye on cloth – paintings and prints.

The human figure is central, often invisible in the images but the presence and absence of human energy prevails – whether in a scarf or a small abstract canvas.

This work looks at layers and time – portals implied on a flat surface allow us to move from one level to another.Carole's work with clothing and scarves developed from the question of where and how an artwork defines its beginning and end.

If someone wears the painting – the painting changes, and changes again if someone else puts it on.

This became an ongoing fascination. Her most recent textile work includes a collection of printed shawls which can hang on the wall – or around the body.
