The course aims to help parents/carers understand their child's behaviour, increase their well-being, reduce anxiety, make effective environmental changes and respond in helpful ways to distressed related behaviours.Throughout the 10-week program, each session focuses on strategies for different topics:

Week 2: Building your boat (Understanding behaviour we can see)
Week 3: The Sensory Stream (Navigating the sensory environment)
Week 4: Teamwork (Moving in the same direction)
Week 5: Moving Forward (Communication)
Week 6: Enjoying the Ride! (Promoting wellbeing through play)
Week 7: Inflate your life jacket! (Managing Stress)
Week 8: Mind the Rocks! (Responding to stressful situations)
Week 9: Full Steam Ahead (Active problem solving)
Week 10: Land Ahoy!Strategies are developed through group discussions, direct teaching, practising ideas at home and parents and carers sharing their experiences.PLEASE NOTE: Once you have booked onto the course, all parents/carers will be contacted by one of the Riding the Rapids facilitators to complete a pre-assessment.
Pre-assessment last up to 45minutes and it is to ensure that Riding the Rapids is a suitable intervention to meet your child's needs. It is also an opportunity to ask any questions and for us to get to know you and your child.
