For our spring concert we are performing one of the pinnacles of the choral repertoire, the Requiem by Giuseppe Verdi.
Composed in 1874 as a tribute following the death of the great Italian writer and statesman, Alessandro Manzoni, it displays Verdi at his 'operatic' best. From the hushed opening of the Kyrie to the dramatic vision of judgement in the Dies irae, (with 'that drum'!) to the tranquil Agnus Dei and the exciting choral fugue of the Libera me, which closes the work, Verdi's Requiem has been thrilling and delighting audiences since it was first performed. With well over 100 members of the very popular Tewkesbury Choral Society, a stellar line up of soloists and the Regency Sinfonia all directed by John Holloway, this wonderful work will be enjoyed by singers and audience alike in the amazing venue of Tewkesbury Abbey.
An opportunity not to be missed.
