The National Trust team at Mompesson House, the eighteenth-century townhouse in Salisburys Cathedral Close, recently completed their project to restore the North-East Bedroom and opened the room to visitors in June.Following months of careful conservation, the room has returned to how it would have appeared in the eighteenth century the first time it has been presented in this way since the National Trust opened the house to visitors in 1977.

Original wall panelling and rare papier-mch detailing offer a striking glimpse into historic craftsmanship and design. The restored room brings to life stories of Mompessons former residents, from the Mompesson family to its last resident, Denis Martineau.

Visitors can now see items from the collection that are rarely on display, including a selection of Victorian resident Barbara Townsends watercolours, alongside intriguing objects discovered beneath the floorboards during the project.Emma James, Site Manager at Mompesson and Georgiana Cooper, Collections & House Officer worked on the project together, with support from National Trust colleagues and Connolly Wellingham Architects.

They will share the evolution of the project from their initial vision, carrying out research and surveys, to the conservation and presentation of the space.
