Learn the art of intaglio printmaking using waste (but clean!) tetrapak packaging in one or more of these 2-hour sessions during February. This will be a small class size of maximum 8, in Rhoose Community Library. Toilets and refreshments available. The ticket is for 1 x 2 hour session, and you can book both if you wish. The classes are for the total beginner to intermediate levels. If you would like to have a go, improve your technique or try some new things and ask all the questions, I can tailor the class to your needs. You can bring your own designs and ideas you would like to make into a intaglio print if you wish, or I will have a range of designs available for you to trace - so there is no freehand drawing required unless you want to. If you do have a design or idea of what you would like to make I can help you achieve this. You will make an art print to take home. We will use etching needles (warning: sharp points) to scratch and lift designs into the shiny surface, rub ink into them and print onto damp paper using a mini etching press. All materials are non-toxic. Inks are soap and water soluble when wet. Gloves and aprons are provided or feel free to bring your own. There may be the oportunity to add colour to your prints, using various methods including a technique called Chine Colle. We will cover:Tetrapak etching basics: tools and materials available; etching, inking and pressing techniques (and how to keep clean and efficiently clear up afterwards!)
Designs and how to get the best from intaglio printing methods in single and multiple colours
How to dry your prints so they remain flat.Refunds/exchanges: If you are unable to attend for any reason, you can get a refund up to 1 day before the event.
