Join art historian Morgan Haigh on his popular five-week course which will take in the wonders, marvels, curiosities, and masterpieces of British art and architecture. From the mysterious cultures of celts and saxons, through the grandeur of the gothic cathedrals and the splendour of the Tudor court, to the political and industrial revolutions of the Seventeenth and Eighteenth Centuries. Finishing in the modern world, as we chart how British identity was made and remade by our artists and writers.
Hear the stories of great names like Turner, Constable, and Gainsborough, foreign artists who made Britain their home like van Dyck, Artemisia, and Holbein, as well as lesser known figures who changed the way we see our own islands such as Wilson, Hollar, and Palmer.
This course is suitable for all; those who know a lot, a little, or are simply those keen to expand their understanding of our island's history and its rich cultural heritage.Wednesday Evenings - 30th Sept - 28th oct.Morgan Haigh is an Cardiff based art historian, writer, and lecturer. Trained at The Courtauld Institute of Art in London, he has presented lectures on artists including Hogarth, Picasso, OKeeffe, and Manet as well as courses on the history of European art, Modernism, and architecture. He has led tours in the major London galleries as well as the National Gallery of Art Washington DC, The Uffizi in Florence, and the National Museum of Wales.
