Explore the historic Panmure House in the heart of Edinburgh for Doors Open Days, in association with Scottish Civic Trust.Panmure House is the final remaining home of Adam Smith, philosopher and 'father of modern economics.' Not normally open to the public, this is a chance to tour this historical House - once almost lost to history.Stand in the very room where Smith completed his final editions of An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations and catch a glimpse of our Smith Library Restoration.Visitors will have the chance to explore the House at their own pace and appreciate the comprehensive restoration that has revived it to its original charm, reflecting the era when Smith resided here, while seamlessly incorporating modern amenities. This year, our Reading Room will feature a visual display exploring Panmure’s rich history and evolving timeline, inviting visitors to discover and reflect on Panmure's past, present and future. You will also have the opportunity to view a first edition of The Wealth of Nations.
