Sophie Baccus-Waterman will discuss Elizabeth Boleyn, mother to Anne Boleyn. From her early years, to her marriage to Thomas Boleyn and her long career in Katherine of Aragon's household, before either Mary or Anne Boleyn caught Henry VIII's eye. For the first time, the infamous rise and fall of the Boleyn family is told from Elizabeth Boleyn's perspective.About the speaker
Sophie Baccus-Waterman is a Tudor historian and an Associate Fellow of the Royal Historical Society. She has written for publications such as The Court Historian and the Papers of the Bibliographical Society of America, and appeared on several popular history podcasts. Her book Elizabeth Boleyn: The Life of the Queen's Mother is the first narrative biography of Elizabeth Boleyn. Beginning with her familys dramatic flight from Norfolk to London after the Battle of Bosworth, Sophie Bacchus-Waterman charts Elizabeths life at the early Henrician court, follows her as her family rise to the pinnacle of their power, and ends with her tragic death just a couple of years after two of her children were brutally executed. This is the story of the Boleyn family and the dramatic events of Tudor England from an entirely new perspective.
