Tree Folk: An Evening With Lisa Schneidau

Tree FolkWhat is a folk tale, but a tangled woodland of words, where anything could happen? Ever since the last ice melted, trees have been our constant companions.

Trees have transformed us, protected us, inspired us and created bridges for us.

They will continue to shape our lives as we walk into an uncertain future.The islands of Britain and Ireland hold a rich heritage of folk tales, history, knowledge and song about trees.

It is a living heritage, changing all the time through the circling year as oak and rowan are joined by spruce and plane, and as old stories are reworked and new ones created.

Following the wheel of the year, storyteller and ecologist Lisa Schneidau brings our trees alive through their stories and songs, whether they are rooted in rural magic or modern myth.Lisa Schneidau is a storyteller, folklorist and environmentalist based in Devon.

She seeks out, and shares, traditional stories about the land and our complex relationship with it, and works with creative storytelling to enable better connection with nature and landscape.

Lisa works with the oral storytelling tradition, where traditional and modern stories are remembered, shared and passed on to others.Lisa originally trained as an ecologist and has worked for wildlife charities for 25 years in roles including farm advisor, river surveyor, political lobbyist and conservation director.

She has been storytelling for about twenty years, training with international tellers and developing a passion for folk tales that reconnect us with the land.Lisa has danced with Beltane Border Morris for ten years, and is a founder member of MAYDAY Morris, using folk dance to bring energy to protest.

She has played an active part in the Right to Roam and Stars are for Everyone campaigns, and works as a founder member of the Dartmoor Nature Alliance.
