Fifty years ago, Clare and Michael Morpurgo left London with their young family and set off for a remote farm in rural Devon.
What began as a leap into the unknown became the foundation for a remarkable life together and the setting that would inspire some of Michael’s most enduring stories including War Horse and Private Peaceful.
Together they raised their children, built something lasting and founded the charity Farms for City Children, giving more than 100,000 young people from urban areas the chance to experience the countryside first hand.
They share their story of a life lived close to the land - one of creativity, commitment, hardship and joy.
Join us for a rare chance to hear the story behind the stories and celebrate an extraordinary partnership lived across five decades on a magical farm.
There will be a book signing after this event.
