In this talk Historian Ricky Pound will discuss the types of porcelain that would have been typically collected, displayed, and used by the likes of Henrietta Howard in the early 18th century.
Often called white gold due to its cost, porcelain was a symbol of an individuals wealth, taste, status and fashionability.This talk will also examine the social rituals associated with the drinking of tea and the form and function of the porcelain itself.
Ricky will also illustrate some examples for his own collection.Ricky Pound is a Visitor Operations Manager of historic properties in west London.
Previously Ricky has managed Chiswick House (1998-2014), Marble Hill House and Park (2011-14) and Joseph Mallord William Turners self-designed Sandycombe Lodge (2019-22).
He has also worked at Orleans House Gallery where in 2016 he curated a major exhibition focused on the Georgian garden designer Lancelot Capability Brown (1716-83).
In 2023 Ricky joined The Twickenham Museum as House Manager.
In addition, Ricky is also currently the Outreach and Volunteer Manager for The Popes Grotto Preservation Trust.Ricky also likes to volunteer some of his free time to heritage.
From 2020 he has been an original trustee of the London Luminaries and from 2024 he has volunteered at Sir John Soanes Museum in Holborn.Ricky is also a collector of Asian and European ceramics from the 17th to 19th centuries.
