Northern Soul Orchestrated

Originating across the North and the Midlands in the 1960s and 1970s, the Northern soul subculture emerged as a passionate and vibrant all-night dance movement centred around American soul music.

Growing from an underground scene to an enduring movement, the legacy of Northern soul resonates in contemporary music today; in this concert, the BBC Concert Orchestra revives the vibrant, euphoric music in a whole new style.Curated by BBC Radio 6 Music’s Stuart Maconie and conducted by Joe Duddell, the orchestra performs amazing new arrangements by Fiona Brice of Northern soul classic anthems with a host of very special guest vocalists, capturing the spirit of a movement.
