Join us at the Great North Museum: Hancock in collaboration with the Experimental Archaeologist Society from Newcastle University for some hands on archaeology and learn lifestyle skills from ancient times.

Experimental Archaeology allows you to get hands on with history and learn through handling the materials and tools which people would have used, many years ago.

Through this practical approach, you get a real connection to how people would have worked and lived and understand the resources that would have contributed to survival and thriving communities.During this event you can learn from experts and have a go at:Stone Drilling: Using stones as both tools and decoration.Glass Knapping: A technique involving glass and a form of hammer to produce items such as arrowheads and other practical items.Clay Figurines: Learn how people would have used clay to express their beliefs and decorate their home environments.Woodwork: A practical craft that has stood the test of time, learn how people would have used wood working skills in their daily lives. There will also be a bar and music at the event and it promises to be a relaxed, engaging opportunity where you can learn how skills from the past can be used today.Suitable for ages 16+
