Edinburgh-born Jamie Primrose is a best-selling professional painter, celebrating his 20th Anniversary in 2023, having hosted over 40 highly successful past new collections, with an ever-expanding UK and international clientele. With his studio in Stockbridge since 2009, Primrose often reawakens childhood memories from the surrounding areas in his artworks – connecting with those who are also drawn emotionally from past or present. The acclaimed artist now presents his much-anticipated exhibition of over 50 original oil paintings and limited edition prints featuring gorgeous vistas of romantic seasonal realism in and around North Edinburgh and the surrounding coast – each with an ephemeral, atmospheric quality.Captivated by the fleeting nature of light and inspired by the Impressionists, initially he depicts Inverleith Pond in springtime, focusing on delicate pink cherry blossoms mirrored in the gentle rippling water with a sparkling light-infused shimmer – his natural elements evoking a sense of serenity.
Next, Primrose showcases rich autumnal tones, with pleasing verdant linear trees overlooking the pond and spires beyond, becoming stunning silhouettes in his winterscapes.Onto surrounding Inverleith Park, bursts of golden autumnal luminosity glisten through the trees with shadows darting onto the paths.
Thereafter, the last flickers of late afternoon transient winter sunlight glimmer through sculptural branches offering vibrant hues.A beautiful Royal Botanic Garden series begins in the Rock Garden as pastel spring blooms of violet, lavender and pink radiate uplifting joy.
Meanwhile, the Botanics Pond reflects a haze of earthy autumnal colours turning into an atmospheric wonderland in wintertime.
Nearby, the water theme continues along by the Stockbridge Colonies – a picturesque oasis of calm.Newhaven Harbour offers colourful boats bobbing in daylight to magnificent vivid views towards twilight.
While at Leith’s Shore, Primrose captures glistening icy blue reflections at dawn and a myriad of glowing ephemeral shades at sunset, beautifully illustrating the surrounding architecture.
Westwards, shimmering sundown glimpses at Cramond, and eastwards soothing iridescent East Lothian beaches are the culmination of these sought-after sparkling light and water impressions.
