Telling Our Stories Through the Medium of Linoprint Workshop with Artist Sarah Troughton

We want this workshop to be accessible to everyone, so please feel free to donate whatever amount feels right for you.Join us for a workshop inspired by the current linoprint exhibition at the Cathedral, Transformation, by Sarah Troughton. In this workshop, you will learn the basic skills of linoprinting while considering how this art form can help you process experiences and express emotion.Transformation is a series of linoprint angels that navigate the journey of post-traumatic growth for survivors of church-related abuse. In this workshop, you will be invited to explore how you might express something of your own story through images.You will hear about how the processes involved in the practice of linoprinting help the artist express her faith, and you will create your own print. No previous experience is required!This workshop will be held on Sunday 11 October, 2-4pm, and again, at the same time, on Sunday 15 November.Please note:The workshop will be held in the Cathedrals Education Centre, which is accessible by lift. Please feel free to bring your own refreshments.
The necessary tools and materials will be provided.
Please be mindful of your clothes this can be a messy process! Please bring an apron if you wish, and keep in mind that your sleeves may get inky if they are not protected or rolled up.
Sarah Troughton will be on hand to provide guidance throughout the session.About the facilitator:
Sarah is a mother, wife, psychiatrist and educator (Associate Dean) working in the North East of England. She has a particular interest in the impact of trauma and moral injury through her work in both veterans mental health and addictions psychiatry. She has been involved in several projects in the Diocese of Newcastle, including If I Told You What Would You Do? and Jagged Edges, in which she has been able to use her own experiences of abuse in (and outside of) the Church to improve understanding of the impact of church-related abuse on the victims, the wider church community and beyond, with the aim of supporting better responses.Image:Sarah Troughton making a linocut print.
