Wimborne Minster The Characters Tour

St. Cuthberga founded her double Monastery in 705 and around it the town of Wimborne grew. Sometime around 1043, Edward the Confessor re-founded the place as a College of Cannons. During the civil war Cromwells fighting priest started a riot here and in the Nineteenth century Issac Gulliver, the smuggler, became Church warden.
The Minster is full of our heritage and the Minster Guides would like to share some of that heritage with you. For thirteen hundred years the Minster has been very much part of the town. It is a centre for Christian worship, a grade 1 listed building, a museum, and a place for quiet and stillness in our busy world.
During Heritage Week it is planned that there will be Guides available in the Minster all the time the Minster is open to the public.
In addition, tours of the Minster will be available. Tours will last for approximately an hour and be restricted to a maximum of 10 participants.The Characters Tour - An introduction to some of the characters associated with the Minster. Including the legend of Cuthberga, the dancing nuns, Ethelred, Margaret Beaufort, the man with two left feet, Edmund Barnes, our own Dick Wittington together with other personalities from our past.
