About

Imagine that we have arrived at your relatives' London house at some point in the mid-17th century.

Imagine that we have arrived at your relatives' London house at some point in the mid-17th century. They had twelve days of revelry lined up with feasting, but more importantly lots of wonderful music - carols, raucous ballads, beautiful folk songs, and lively dances. For this musical celebration of Christmas time, Siglo de Oro are joined by the wonderful Spinacino Consort. Our concert features music by Byrd, Ravenscroft, Peerson, Playford, Dowland, and more!Siglo de OroSiglo de Oro is an adventurous vocal ensemble based in London. Led by its director, Patrick Allies, the group is known for its golden tone, fresh interpretations, and innovative programming. In recent seasons, highlights have included a three-concert residency at Wigmore Hall, a collaboration with composer Caroline Shaw, concerts tours of the US and Canada, and appearances at festivals across the UK and in Sweden, Finland, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands.
The group has made six recordings for Delphian Records, winning accolades from BBC Music Magazine (Choral Recording of the Month), Fono Forum (Stern des Monats) and Music Web International (Recording of the Year).Siglo de Oro's repertoire stretches from the music of the Middle Ages to newly commissioned works. The group's projects have ranged from a research partnership exploring 12th-century French song via 17th-century Italian Carnival madrigals to pieces written for the group by Kerensa Briggs, Marisse Cato, and Ben Rowarth.Spinacino ConsortSpinacino Consort is a Scottish-based early music ensemble dedicated to reimagining the music of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries in passionate and engaging performances. Our programmes are grounded in the latest musicological research, uncovering lost works and providing new contexts. Our members are leading early career performers in Scotland, performing with the finest ensembles in the UK including the Ancient Academy of Music, Dunedin Consort, Concerto Caledonia, RSNO, and the Linarol Consort of Viols. In 2024 we continued our collaboration with Siglo de Oro with performances of 'Hey for Christmas' at the National Early Music centre in York, and in 2025 performed the programme 'The Battle Between Carnival and Lent', appearing on BBC Radio 3's In Tune, Derby Cathedral, and Wigmore Hall.
