Unveiling of Ernest Cossart Blue Plaque

Martyn Brabbins, our President, will unveil the new Cheltenham Civic Society blue plaque to Ernest Cossart (1876-1951), Gustav Holst’s talented Hollywood-actor brother, on his 150th birthday.Born Emil von Holst, Ernest Cossart was a stage and film actor who immigrated to America from England in 1908.

He appeared in numerous plays and films, on Broadway and Hollywood, alongside actors such as Ginger Rogers, Bob Hope and Katherine Hepburn.

His most significant role was in the 1940 film Kitty Foyle, in which he played Ginger Rogers’s father, Thomas Foyle.Edward Gillsepie, Lord-Lieutenant of Gloucestershire, and Cheltenham Mayor Martin Horwood will also say a few words.No ticket is required to view the unveiling ceremony, but why not combine with a visit to the house, including the Ernest Cossart case display exhibition?
