UNDER MILK WOOD by Dylan Thomas
The Dreams of a small town - The voices of the nightAs part of our 25th Anniversary celebrations, we are delighted to revisit one of the most beloved productions in our history. Back in November 2001, it was only the third show we ever staged and now, a quarter of a century later, we return to the magical world of Under Milk Wood. This new production will be performed in the atmospheric surroundings of the Great Barn, the perfect setting for an evening of poetry, humour and dreams.
Step into the night in the seaside village of Llareggub, where the inhabitants sleep, dream, remember and reveal their secrets. Through Thomass rich, lyrical language we meet a gallery of unforgettable characters whose voices echo through the night.Among them are the kindly Rev. Eli Jenkins, the quietly sinister Mr Pugh, who dreams of poisoning his wife, and Captain Cat, who dreams of his lost love Rosie Probert and the ghosts of sailors past. There is the formidable Mrs Ogmore-Pritchard, who still tyrannises her two long-dead husbands, the flirtatious Myfanwy Price and Mog Edwards in their romantic correspondence, the mysterious Gossamer Beynon, and the irrepressible Polly Garter, lamenting lost loves while raising her many babies.Funny, tender, mischievous and deeply human, Under Milk Wood is a celebration of community, imagination and the music of language itself.Join us in the Great Barn for a magical evening of Welsh voices, dreams and storytelling, as the people of Llareggub awaken once more.
