Madness is a recurring theme in Shakespeares plays. There are characters who go mad, characters who pretend to go mad, and characters who try to send others mad. Not to mention Shakespeares fools, who may seem bonkers but often speak more sense than anyone else. Modern attitudes to mental health, madness and insanity are very different from those of the 16th century, but Shakespeares depictions of people in mental torment is often strikingly recognisable.
The Inn Theatre Company has put together a mad, crazy evening of scenes from Shakespeares plays on the theme of insanity, Lunatics and Fools. There will be characters you know well, such as Ophelia, Feste and King Lear, alongside some you might not be expecting.So please come and join us. Youll be surprised, informed, amused, shocked and, above all, entertained.The Inn Theatre Company draws performers from across south Devon for their productions, which include a week of open-air performances in the idyllic setting of Dartmouth Castle every summer.
