Friends of the Glynn Vivian artist talk with Gwenllian Beynon

Join us for this free bilingual talk in English and Welsh!Gwenllian Beynon is an artist and lecturer who has a passion for Wales and art related to the culture and language of Cymru. Gwenllian lectures at Swansea College of Art where her main responsibility is ensuring that Welsh speaking students use Welsh in their studies, and for all students to have an appreciation of the creative industries in Wales, both from the contemporary and historical perspective.Gwenllian said, Josef Herman was introduced to me whilst studying on the foundation course in Carmarthen by Osi Rhys Osmond and I have a passion for his art ever since. When I was approached to become a trustee of the Josef Herman Art Foundation in Ystradgynlais, I was delighted to accept. I am currently the Vice Chair of the Foundation.The aspects of the Foundation that interests me most are the educational element and to be able to share information about Herman's work and life, these are three pillars of the Foundation, Herman's art, his life and education, the 4th pillar being human rights.In this talk she will explore the works currently on display at the Glynn Vivian, with the Miner's Panels from 1951 being a main focus, this was Herman's largest work and one of the most important works to display Swansea Valley miners.
