Painting the Roses Red (heading to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2026), is an absurd piece exploring themes around immigration, patriotism and what it means to belong.

The project takes both inspiration from Lewis Carrolls classic work of fiction Alice in Wonderland and the reality of the past six months, where we have seen a rise in overt nationalism.

In the words of Carroll; the time has come, the walrus said, to talk of many things: of shoes and ships, and sealing wax, of cabbages and kings.Old Bedalians Rowena Le Poer Trench (writer and director) and Guy Martins (co-director) creative partnership sparked when they co-directed Posh by Laura Wade in their Student Directed enrichment in which they direct their peers.

Afterwards, while studying at the Jacques Lecoq International Theatre School in France, Rowena met Anasazi (producer).

Anasazi has a background in repertory theatre in the US, notably with the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.

Now the three have formed their own theatre company, with this show as its debut. We look forward to welcoming them.
