The ‘Fronting the Map’ exhibition explores the history and experiences of Polish soldiers in Scotland during the Second World War through the places, maps and traces they left in the Scottish landscape.
It presents history not simply as a sequence of dates and events, but as a living story embedded in the spaces around us-one that can still be encountered, interpreted and rediscovered today. At the heart of the exhibition is the Great Polish Map of Scotland in Eddleston, an extraordinary monument to the wartime Polish presence in Scotland and an enduring symbol of Polish-Scottish friendship and collaboration.
The exhibition uses the Map as a point of reference for exploring wider stories of military service, mobility, settlement and cultural exchange, including the experiences of those who remained in Scotland and made it their home after the war.The Exhibition is available in English and Polish
