'A picturesque & beautiful specimen of its peculiar style' Gawthorpe Hall's Victorian architecture

In the 1850s Gawthorpe Hall was renovated by architect Sir Charles Barry, famous for his work on the Houses of Parliament in London.Join Public Historian Rachel Pilling as she goes through the extensive archive of drawings and letters that remains today, showing the alterations he made to the Hall.

The archive details the work that took place both inside and out, the problems they came across and even created, as well as the often-hidden solutions and compromises.Rachel will also look at how Sir James and Lady Janet Kay-Shuttleworth influenced the renovations to the Hall, as well as the work of Augustus Pugin and Crace on the interiors.Ticket includes entry to the Hall included, so you can see for yourself Sir Charles Barry's changes to the Hall and the wonderful Victorian rooms.
