We are delighted to be collaborating with Winterbourne Parish Council and St. Michael's Church for our Spring Open Day.
Winterbourne Parish Council will be running activities at the beautiful Monk's Pool nature reserve during the morning and then both St Michael's and The Barn's sites will be open (free of charge) for visitors to pop in and see these unique heritage venues during the afternoon. Why not bring a picnic and spend the day in this lovely corner of Winterbourne. For full details and specific timings for the other venues, please contact them directly. This is a free, drop in event so you are welcome to visit The Barn anytime between 1-4pm on Sunday 17th May.
If you are able to book a ticket in advance then it is very helpful for us to manage numbers and catering. Our friendly volunteers will be on hand to show you around our site accompanied by live music from our medieval wandering minstrels, Bygonz.
Outside there will be guest speakers from local nature groups joining us to talk to visitors about how we can all help support local wildlife and providing some free activities for younger visitors to get involved in.Activities throughout the day:
We are delighted to welcome back Yvonne Cox from Hedgehog Rescue, a volunteer-based hedgehog rescue centre based from their garden hospital in Yate.
Yvonne will be at The Barn throughout the event with lots of information on how important invertebrates are in our gardens, particularly for hedgehogs, as well as lots of tips on how we can help our prickly garden visitors. There may even be an appearance from one of her patients, if they are feeling well enough.
Yvonne will also have insect boxes and colouring sheets available for younger guests to start exploring the insects we have in our local area. She will also be encouraging visitors to help build a log pile house so that the insects we discover have a cosy new home by the end of the day.
These activities do not need to be booked, but you may have to wait for a space to become available if they are busy at a particular time.Activities to pre-book for younger guests:
We are delighted to welcome back Daisy Finniear, Climate & Nature Officer at Frampton Parish Council to lead some nature themed activities for our younger visitors.
All ages and abilities welcome, but very young children may need some help from their grown ups.
1pm: 45 minute bug hunt around The Barn site
2-3pm: pinecone bird feeder / seed bomb making (20 minute sessions)
3:15pm: 45 minute bug hunt around The Barn site
These activities are free of charge, but must be pre-booked as there are maximum numbers for them to run smoothly and safely.Free parking on site. Parking for this event will be at the Barn, BS36 1SE only.
The Barn's pop up bar will be open serving a small selection of drinks and snacks. Cash and card payments are accepted.Any donations given at this event will be used to support conservation, management, maintenance and improvement of the WMBT site.
