Phantom Threads is a community-focused curatorial project centered around craft, care, accessibility, and intergenerational making featuring work by people working with fibre crafts.
It explores how craft carries traces of labour, care, gender expression, and memory through everyday making and embodied experiences.
The exhibition foregrounds their creative practices and celebrates their material and emotional contribution, giving what is stereotypically seen as 'women's work' more visibility and showcasing its often-underappreciated value.
The show highlights the work of artists Mandy Griffiths, Alison Murray, Amy Brushaber, Galawezh Mohammed Sabir & Niga Salam, Tricia Zakreski & Ruth Broadway, Gwen Larson, Catherine Waite, Sophie Pettit, Terry Cann and Tricia Zakreski. In addition to the exhibition, Phantom Threads is facilitating a programme of free participatory workshops and events such as knitting, mending, and textile-based making, encouraging connections and skill-sharing across generations.
A small community-produced shop and reading space extend the exhibition experience, with proceeds supporting charities and community initiatives.
Presented at Positive Light Project from the 4th-14th of June in the centre of Exeter and curated by MA Curation students Liv Pattimore, Mo Yan Zhang and Kaia Brushaber, Phantom Threads creates a space where making becomes a way of connecting people, stories, and care through shared creative practice.Phantom Threads is presented as part of the University of Exeter's MA Curation programme, REWORLDING.
