Walk, from the Village Hall, to the Harroway by road and footpath with one steep & stoney section.
Our route will follow a short part of the Harroway, passing near the site of Powderham Castle (a Saxon earthwork) and close to the site of the Workhouse School. We will head north, up a short flight of steps, to a footpath that takes us back to the village.
There will be a loop through Barley Pound woods, where there are the remains of Barley Pound Castle (a Saxon ringwork and bailey).
There will be excellent views of the village and surrounding area, including Horsedown Common, a geological outlier.12.30-13.00 On our return we will stop at the caf at the Penn Croft winery for refreshments.Note: the walk will be partly single-lane roads and footpaths which can be rough in places.
The walk is around 4 miles long.
