The annual Dorothy Kuya Memorial Lecture at the International Slavery Museum is a powerful evening of reflection, dialogue, and cultural celebration, honouring the life and legacy of anti-racism campaigner and educator Dorothy Kuya.
This year’s lecture features keynote speaker Dr Anita Gonzalez of Georgetown University, whose work explores race, performance, memory, and the African diaspora through global cultural perspectives. The evening will open with introductions from Michelle Charters OBE, setting the tone for an engaging and thought-provoking programme that continues Dorothy Kuya’s commitment to social justice, education, and community activism.
Guests will also experience a vibrant live performance from artist Blue Saint, alongside a traditional drum call welcoming audiences into a shared space of remembrance, resistance, and celebration.Bringing together scholarship, spoken reflection, music, and community, the event will include cultural food and opportunities for conversation and connection.
