From Tintern Old Station, this route heads towards Brockweir before beginning a steady climb to the village of Hewelsfield.
The reward of gaining height is superb views across the Wye Valley and, on a clear day, as far as the Black Mountains.From Hewelsfield, the walk continues towards St Briavels, where the views open up in the opposite direction across the magnificent Forest of Dean.
After enjoying a picnic lunch on St Briavels village green the return route descends to Bigsweir Bridge before following the peaceful banks of the River Wye back to the start.This walk is not suitable for dogs.9 miles energetic with ascent/descent and a number of stiles.
Allow 5-6 hours.
