Join Nic DeRushie, researcher and living educator, for this inspirational and practical workshop around traditional spinning techniques. The morning will start with an introduction to the history of yarn making taking inspiration from the museum collections.
There will be a handling session looking at a range of spinning tools, some of which are from our collections, before moving onto the hands-on creative experience. You will have the opportunity to make your own spindles and learn the basics of spinning using Scottish heritage breed fleeces.
You will also learn about yarn plying and explore projects that can be done using a small amount of hand-spun yarn. All materials can be taken home to enjoy further experimenting with techniques learnt in your own time.
