Continuing our occasional series of international talks and to celebrate the 130th anniversary of the opening of the first Danish cinema, the CTA are delighted to welcome distinguished former projectionist Thomas Hauerslev, MBKS to London to share his illustrated talk "An introduction to Danish cinema history".We start by exploring the first decade of moving images in Denmark, which begins with painter and manufacturer Lauritz Vilhelm Pacht, who opened Kinoptikon in Copenhagen's Panorama on June 7, 1896.Moving through the next 60 years, along the way we will explore two examples of Todd-AO era cinema design in Copenhagen, accompanied by a gallery of historic images, showing examples of former cinemas and their current uses. The story will conclude with examples of current cinema design in Denmark. The whole story is lavishly presented with photos of buildings and auditoria, including 70mm projection rooms - as well as historical advertisements and more.

This will be a rare opportunity to explore the cinematic history of Denmark discussed by one of its leading curators, and one which should not be missed. Our presenter, Thomas Hauerslev, MBKS (1963) was a projectionist in Copenhagen (Denmark) between 1982 and 1994, and has worked in public service for 40 years until retirement in 2025.

He is the editor of 'in70mm.com' and 'biografmuseet.dk' which cover large format film and cinema history.

Thomas has been involved with 70mm film festivals in the UK, Germany, Austria, Norway, Czech Republic and Denmark as programmer and lecturer for more than 25 years.

He was awarded an Honorary Membership of the BKSTS in 2009 for his work in preserving the history of 70mm.Event Organised by Ken Roe & Richard Norman.Venue: The Gallery at Alan Baxter Associates, 75 Cowcross Street, Farringdon, London EC1M 6EL (entrance opposite 'Snappy Snaps' shop), go through the gates, across the yard and down a few steps).Getting there: The Gallery is situated close to Farringdon Station - numerous transport services are provided by Thameslink, Elizabeth line, Circle/ Metropolitan/ Hammersmith & City underground.
