This engaging talk uncovers the latest discoveries from Iron Age and Roman sites across the Forestrevealing stories that have been buried for centuries.Youll hear how the New Forest History and Archaeology Group has been uncovering remarkable clues at places such as the Roman settlement and possible villa at Brockenhurst, the charcoalprocessing site at Leadenhall and surveying and recording the hillforts at Ampress, Buckland Rings and Exbury. These finds are helping to reshape what we know about the people who lived, worked and built communities here long before the Forest we know today.Professor Tony King will guide you through these discoveries, placing them in their wider historical setting and sharing photographs of the sites and artefacts. Whether youre a history enthusiast, a New Forest local or simply curious about the world beneath your feet, this talk promises fresh insights and a fascinating journey into the past.Professor Tony King retired in 2020 from the University of Winchester, where he spent many years teaching Roman archaeology. He was and still is an active digging archaeologist, and has carried out excavations in Hampshire, Sussex, Somerset, Italy and Libya.
