From Shore to Bioplastics is a two-hour, hands-on workshop exploring how everyday ingredients and materials from the coast can be transformed into experimental plastic alternatives.Working with base ingredients such as agar agar and glycerine, participants will be guided through the basics of making bioplastics.

They will have the opportunity to try their own experiments, introducing foraged, natural and waste materials to create small prototypes with unusual textures, colours, patterns and forms.

The emphasis is on curiosity and practical exploration rather than a single finished result: learning a few processes together, then seeing what happens when materials are combined or adapted in unexpected ways.Bioplastics need several days to dry, so the pieces will continue to change after the workshop as their surfaces, colours and textures develop.

Participants will be able to take their creations home, where they can continue to observe the materials as they dry and develop. From Shore to Bioplastics has been developed in response to Conversation with Our Ocean, a project exploring the relationship between art, science, coastal environments and public participation.

Through guided, practical making, the workshop invites participants to connect with materials from the shore and consider new possibilities for plastic alternatives.
