About

Celebrate the launch of the sixth collection in the Verbal Remedies series of Creative Writing by medical students from the University of Aberdeen.

Celebrate the launch of the sixth collection in the Verbal Remedies series of Creative Writing by medical students from the University of Aberdeen.

A selection of students and recent graduates will read their pieces and discuss the experience with course lecturer Dr Helen Lynch.Every year, twelve medical students get the chance to spend six weeks in an intensive Creative Writing course as part of the Medical Humanities bloc in their studies.

They spend the time discovering and developing their creative talents in poetry and prose, from childhood memories to creating characters, from exploring poetic form, narrative structure and dialogue to inhabiting and conveying the unfamiliar.

In doing so they produce resonant and memorable work, build a strong, supportive group dynamic and undergo changes of perspective and imagination.

Verbal Remedies is a way to be able to share with others the work they have created and to reflect on the ways that doing so may have benefitted everything from their mental health to their punctuation. This event is supported by the Dr Jeannie MacLeod fund.
