Year 10 Navigating Success: Launching Your GCSEsMaximum of 4 tickets per studentThe jump from Key Stage 3 to GCSEs is one of the biggest milestones in a student's educational journey. While this evening is not compulsory, attendance is absolutely essential for all Year 10 students and their parents/carers to ensure we hit the ground running from day one.
Success at GCSE isn't about a last-minute sprint in Year 11-it starts right now. This evening is designed to give you and your child the ultimate toolkit to build strong foundations and navigate the next two years with confidence. Why This Evening is a Must-Attend:Hitting the Ground Running: Understanding the shift in pace, workload, and expectations as students transition from Year 9 into formal GCSE and vocational courses.
Mapping the GCSE Journey: A complete two-year roadmap, highlighting key milestones, tracking windows, and how we measure progress.
Building the Habits of Success: Introducing the school's support network, building academic resilience, and establishing effective study routines early so there is no panic later.
Statutory Work Experience: In line with Department for Education (DfE) statutory guidance and the Gatsby Benchmarks, workplace experience is a vital requirement to prepare students for the future. Year 10 is the critical launchpad for this. We will outline the statutory framework, safety requirements, and the timeline for securing these essential placements.
Looking Ahead to Post-16: It is never too early to start planning. To help students understand the entry requirements they are aiming for, key regional providers-including Colchester Sixth Form, Colchester Institute, Sigma Sixth, and Writtle University College-will be in attendance to answer questions about future paths.Session Times & StructureWe are running two sessions on the day at 5:00pm and 6:00pm.Each session begins with an introductory briefing in the Atrium with key senior staff, followed by the Main Hall Exhibition, where you can collect curriculum-specific / revision guidance for Year 10 and speak directly with the attending Post-16 colleges. This evening sets the standard for the next two years. We strongly encourage all Year 10 families to join us as we launch this exciting new chapter together.
